Demos show the happy path. This checklist takes you off it: 12 tests that separate real rental software from pretty screenshots.
Demos are rehearsed for a reason
The demo car books in three clicks and the admin panel gleams. But your business runs on the edges: two customers wanting the same Saturday, a deposit collected in cash, a coupon that should refuse to stack. Ask your questions about the edges — a screen-recorded happy path tells you nothing.
Take control of the demo with this checklist. It takes 20 minutes and saves months of regret.
The 12 tests
1. Book the last available car — does it block instantly for the second caller? 2. Change the dates of an existing booking — does availability follow? 3. Create a booking manually (offline/walk-in) — does it enter the same dashboard? 4. Apply a coupon that expired yesterday — does it refuse? 5. Load the site on slow mobile — do cars show inside three seconds? 6. Check whether city SEO pages exist, not just the claim. 7. Ask where licence photos are stored — attached to the booking? 8. Look for deposit refund tracking. 9. Add a second vehicle — per-vehicle pricing? 10. Ask the multi-branch question — is a second storefront included? 11. Change the WhatsApp number — does the site CTA update? 12. Ask who owns the domain and the data when you leave.
Score the small print
Three clauses decide most vendor relationships: per-vehicle fee, booking commission, and data export policy. A vendor that wobbles on demo tests but has clean small print beats one that demos perfectly and charges on every booking. RentalOS policies: no commission, no per-vehicle fee, your domain, full data export by design.
Run this exact checklist on the RentalOS demo — start with the feature checklist and the cost page for the standards you will be measuring against.
