Seven days in Goa with your own car: North Goa beaches, the southern silences, the interior drives — distances, seasons and parking reality, day by day.
Why seven days is the right length
Goa rewards slow travel. Three days covers the beach checklist; seven days cover the actual state — North Goa beaches, the river island drive, spice plantations on the interior roads, the Palolem quiet, Cabo da Rama’s cliff, and still leave a buffer weekend for doing exactly nothing on the coast.
With a self-drive car the itinerary flexes daily. Rain starts over Ashwem? Shift south. A shack invites a long lunch? Delete one beach. That daily flexibility is the entire argument for renting your own car in Goa rather than fixed tours.
The 7 days
Day 1-2: land, pick up your car (Vasco/Dabolim or Madel both work), settle North Goa — Baga to Ashwem stretch. Day 3: river islands and Chorao bird sanctuary, back via Panjim. Day 4: drive south to Palolem or Agonda — two hours of the best interior driving in the state. Day 5: Cabo da Rama and the Canacona coast. Day 6: spice plantation morning, evening in Quepem or Chandor’s old houses. Day 7: return via Borim bridge, sundowner in Panjim, airport drop.
Distances stay short — the longest single leg is about 75 km. Parking in North Goa costs time; South Goa costs nothing. Fuel stops are frequent on NH-66, thinner on interior roads, so fill up before the plantation day.
Getting the car sorted before you land
Book the rental before flights — peak season empties good fleet first. Airport-adjacent operators save the first hour: Wheelify’s Vasco branch sits minutes from Dabolim's terminal with the same pricing as their city storefront. Pick a compact-to-midsize car; Goa’s lanes and parking reward modest dimensions.
Confirm deposit and km limits in the booking, photograph the car at handover, and keep the operator’s WhatsApp saved — check-in messages and return logistics run smoother that way. For the booking flow itself, see the walkthrough post.
